About UPS

Why UPS?

The Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan is consistently ranked as a top department in the nation because of the excellence of our faculty, students and programs.

However, although we as undergraduate students gather in the lecture hall and classroom to learn together, it is easy to go through one’s undergraduate career and never feel connected to others in the department. Furthermore, some may come across challenges in exploring or developing specific interests within the field of Psychology. UPS recognizes these issues.

As a club, we strive to provide valuable opportunities for our members to hear about activities within the department and to get to know one another. We also reach out to graduate students and faculty, many of whom share similar interests and are valuable sources of information and support.

Our Mission and Purpose...

Although UPS is primarily an academic organization, we also plan community service and social events to stress the need for a well-rounded college experience and to facilitate high-quality connections with fellow Psych concentrators, graduate students, and faculty.

Ultimately, UPS aspires to act as an arena for discussion and a valuable resource for its members. Through UPS’s affiliation with the Psychology Student Academic Affairs Office, we also serve to ensure that the voices and opinions of Psychology concentrators are heard by the department.

The Undergraduate Psychology Society is committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all persons and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, or veteran status in its membership or activities unless permitted by university policy for gender specific organizations. Upon joining the organization, all members agree not to undermine the purpose or mission of the Undergraduate Psychology Society.

How Does UPS Work?

We host General Meetings once a month, which are mandatory for all members to attend. This is where we update UPS members on the club's upcoming events and important announcements. We may have presentations from services on campus, talks from keynote speakers, or host special events with other clubs and organizations during these meetings.

Besides the monthly meetings, we offer opportunities for members to participate in at least one of our academic, social, or community service events of their choice each month.

During the first week of every month, the UPS monthly calendar will be sent out with upcoming events and announcements. These may include event registration links, sign-up deadlines, and more. Some of our past events have included group study sessions, a CAPS in Action presentation, movie nights, and participation in events such as Detroit Partnership Day and the Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk.

There is a membership fee of $10 per academic year and once registered, we will add you to our email list. We are excited for you to access research our other career opportunities and join our Study Buddies group!
